Stay is a song written by Nahian, produced by my roommate Balance. Both are up and coming artists based out of Vancouver who are trying to make a name for themselves in the music industry, working together since 2019, have released 4 songs together.
Making videos, with a camera and my drone is something I love doing as a hobby as it allows me to express my creative side while making content. When this song was in the works, Balance and I had decided on creating a short music video for the main verse and releasing it to promote the song on both of ours social media. This would also boost our social media interaction, put the song out there more to get more streams as well.
The story and planning
We first laid out a story we wanted to tell through the video, agreeing to film it mainly near a forest area and then also showing the Vancouver city bits. The following is the scenes and camera work laid out:
Scene 1:
- Opening revealing scene of the protagonist subject walking through a forest trail. Name of the song and its artists being revealed with a text overlay.
- Camera Angle: Aerial drone shot, tracking the subject
Scene 2:
- A revealing scene of the forest leaves and then a glimpse of the city
- Camera Angle: Low angle, driving forward shot
Scene 3:
- Revealing the Vancouver city shot from an aerial angle to match the lyrics
- Camera Angle: Aerial drone shot
Scene 4:
- Close shot of mountains with a slow draggy effect
- Camera Angle: Eye Level close up shot
Scene 5:
- the back of the protagonist walking out facing the city still not showing his face
- Camera Angle: Eye-level, Pull back
Scene 6:
- Finally reveal the protagonist in the video starting with a close up of his face and then him being in the whole forest. The scene waits when he is shown in the whole forest setting and he then walks out of the scene
- Camera Angle: Eye level following by Aerial drone shot, Pull back camera and then hover till the end. Track him when he is in frame
